Traffic Engineer

Location: Greater Chicagoland Area, Illinois
Compensation: $85,000 – $100,000 annually
A growing transportation engineering consultancy is seeking a Traffic Engineering Professional with experience in roadway and highway planning and design. This role focuses on improving transportation networks through data-driven analysis, system optimization, and infrastructure design that enhances safety and mobility.
The selected candidate will contribute to the planning, design, and management of transportation systems with an emphasis on traffic operations, congestion reduction, and roadway safety improvements. This opportunity offers involvement in multidisciplinary infrastructure projects within a collaborative technical environment.
Develop and design traffic control and management systems, including signalization, roadway layouts, and signage plans.
Perform traffic impact studies and analyze transportation data to evaluate existing conditions and predict future system demands.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings and plans using industry-standard design software.
Support transportation planning efforts aimed at improving mobility and promoting sustainable infrastructure development.
Produce technical documentation including engineering reports, specifications, and design narratives.
Coordinate with engineers, planners, project managers, and external stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.
Participate in field reviews, site assessments, and data collection activities when required.
Lead transportation-related projects through planning, design development, execution, and closeout phases.
Assist in implementing design solutions that enhance roadway efficiency and safety performance.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Minimum 3 years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
Knowledge of transportation planning methodologies and traffic operations principles.
Experience managing engineering projects and coordinating technical teams.
Strong analytical abilities with excellent problem-solving skills.
Effective technical writing, documentation, and presentation capabilities.
Proficiency with design and traffic modeling tools such as AutoCAD, SYNCHRO, VISSIM, or SIDRA.
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, planners, public agencies, and community stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail with sound professional judgment.
