Job Title: Sign Structure Estimator
Location: Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Sign Structure Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive bids for the fabrication and installation of overhead, cantilever, and ground-mounted sign structures. Based out of Rancho Cucamonga, this position plays a vital role in supporting project planning, budgeting, and business development efforts for public and private infrastructure projects, particularly those involving Caltrans or municipal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze project plans, specifications, and addenda to determine scope of work and pricing strategies.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and general conditions.
Perform quantity take-offs using HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam or other estimating software.
Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitive and complete bids.
Prepare and submit formal proposals and bid packages for public works and private sector projects.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to validate estimates and address constructability concerns.
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as necessary to assess job conditions and logistical needs.
Maintain current knowledge of Caltrans specifications, local codes, and prevailing wage requirements.
Track historical cost data to improve estimating accuracy and forecasting.
Assist in budgeting for design-build projects and change order pricing during project execution.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
5+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in sign structures, structural steel, or highway infrastructure.
Strong understanding of Caltrans plans, public works bid processes, and California labor compliance.
Proficient with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, HCSS HeavyBid, or similar tools).
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and bid documents.
Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid California Driver’s License; occasional job site visits may be required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
