The Opportunity
Join a respected, family-oriented specialty mechanical contractor as a Safety Manager focused on field leadership across commercial mechanical construction. This is a key leadership role, having 70% of field time working with teams on multi-million dollar HVAC, chiller, process piping, and Design-Build MEP projects in Healthcare, Education, Industrial, and Municipal sectors.
Field-Focused Leadership: You will spend the majority of your week visiting major job sites across the region (Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, northern Kentucky, and eastern Indiana).
You can utilize offices in Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus for reporting.
It’s a visible, high-impact leadership position for 150 field employees identifying hazards, mentoring crews, and “shaking hands”.
Safety Program Ownership: You are primary safety advisor to the executive team, leader of the Safety Committee, and the safety leader for the entire company.
Mentorship: Mentor field crews and supervisors; correct behaviors in real time and build trust across trades.
What you’ll do
Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct walk-throughs to identify risk hazards, ensure compliance with OSHA standards, or stop unsafe work as needed
Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause analysis for any incidents, corrective actions, records documentation, and collaborate with HR on Transitional Work (Return-to-Work) programs.
Training & Development: Deliver engaging hands-on safety training and manage the Hazard Communication Program.
Equipment Oversight: Recommend and order PPE, safety gear, and ensure tools/machinery meet safety specifications to maintain readiness at job sites
External Liaison: Participate in trade group events, and act as the point of contact for OSHA, fire departments, and emergency response teams.
What You Bring to the Team
· Commercial Construction Safety: 5+ years of progressive safety experience in Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing/piping, Sheet metal, Electrical, Drywall, Masonry, Chemical plants, Waste treatment, or multi-site Manufacturing
Leadership: 3+ years of team Leadership (Foreman, Leader, Manager, Supervisor) of company-wide scale equivalent to 150+ field employees
Collaborative Communication: Able to build trust, enforce standards, and engage with field crews constructively
Certifications Required: OSHA 500 / 501 (Outreach Trainer), 510 (Construction) or OSHA 511 (General Industry) preferred; CHST or CSP highly desirable but not required
Travel: Regional travel (about 70% weekly) to multiple job sites. Work is day‑trip based — no overnight stays; company vehicle provided.
Stable Career: Preference for candidates with consistent, multi-year roles and an interest in a long-term career opportunity (position open due to Safety Manager retiring after 42 years)
Compensation & Benefits
Starting Salary: $90,000 – $105,000 plus annual Performance Bonus based on company profit and personal milestones, Company Truck, Gas Card, Laptop, and Cell phone
