Process Engineer – Chemical Compounding & Batch Operations
We’re looking for a chemical process engineer / production supervisor / leader to take the lead in a compounding and batch processing department at our manufacturing plant in Vonore, TN. This is a full-time, on-site role that blends engineering problem-solving with production leadership.
You’ll work alongside the current department head as they prepare for retirement, stepping into a critical role responsible for maintaining product quality, overseeing technical processes, and improving performance across a 24/5 operation. This position is ideal for someone with a chemical engineering degree and experience working in chemical processing, batch manufacturing, or powder/blend systems.
· Lead day-to-day chemical batch processing operations, including raw material compounding, blending, and drying
· Support and eventually oversee a team of 11–12 hourly employees across three shifts
· Analyze and control key process variables including pH, moisture, particle size, and density
· Make technical adjustments to equipment settings and batch formulations to ensure consistency
· Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve performance of pumps, mills, dryers, mixers, and related systems
· Lead and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train operators on quality, safety, and process protocols
· Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to support preventive maintenance and minimize downtime
· Maintain accurate records of process changes, production logs, and material usage in AS400
· Support process trials, product development efforts, and ongoing improvement initiatives
· Contribute to safety, quality, and compliance goals across the department
· BS degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred or an equivalent of 5+ years of PLC batch processing experience
· 5+ years of experience in a PLC chemical manufacturing or batch processing environment
· Strong understanding of PLC equipment for blending, compounding, and powder processing systems
· Comfortable working with process data and making real-time operational decisions
· Familiarity with equipment such as dryers, continuous mills, pumps, and slurry systems
· Experience developing or maintaining SOPs and leading operator training
· Knowledge of preventive maintenance strategies and basic mechanical troubleshooting
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (experience with AS400 is a plus)
· Strong communication skills and a leadership mindset, even if this isn’t your first formal management role
· Willingness to work in a hands-on, production-facing role with direct plant floor engagement
