We are actively recruiting for an Executive Director for a “member based” organization that also supports a small but evolving Architecture Foundation. This dynamic leader will lead the team through a period of growth, leveraging the commitment and engagement of their dedicated staff and Board of Directors. This role is pivotal in achieving exceptional outcomes across all facets of the organization, focusing on empowering staff, engaging the Board, effective organization management, donor cultivation and stewardship, and the implementation of a sustainable and ambitious vision for success.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate with the Board to establish and implement a clear vision for the organization.
  • Articulate goals and objectives, implementing the strategy necessary to realize the vision.
  • Ensure all programs, events, education and advocacy align closely with the organization’s vision and mission, and increase member value.


Board Partnership:

  • Work with the Board to fulfill the organization’s mission, serving as the primary liaison for staff.
  • Collaborate with the Board President to set meeting agendas, ensuring timely communication on program, development, financial, and strategic matters.
  • Manage all administrative aspects of Board meetings.
  • Facilitate regular Board and Staff interaction to enhance knowledge of the organization’s programs and key staff.

Communications and External Relations:

·   Champion the organization’s values, mission, culture, and promote design excellence.

  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including national/state, community, and business leaders, funders, etc.
  • Enhance the organization’s profile and brand recognition.
  • Oversee all internal and external communications, including advocacy activities.
  • Ensure quality and consistency in the organization’s visual and print materials, newsletter and social media presence.

General Management:

  • Recruit, lead, develop, and motivate a qualified staff to achieve program goals.
  • Ensure appropriate systems facilitate day-to-day operations (program management, development, and administration).
  • Oversee the planning and execution of major events.

Program, Event and Committee Oversight:

  • Ensure programs, events and committee work align with the mission and achieve strategic goals.
  • Demonstrate substantive knowledge of community-related issues and promote best practices.
  • Personally engage in program delivery, including volunteer recruitment, retention, and leadership development.
  • Work to ensure the involvement and engagement of emerging design professionals and the area schools of architecture in activities and programs.

Fundraising and Financial Management:

  • Lead fundraising efforts in conjunction with the Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding and ability to secure resources for financial sustainability.
  • Develop and implement a rigorous and continuous fundraising plan.
  • Manage the budget, ensuring stewardship of organizational financial resources.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls and systems are in place.
  • Ensure timely preparation and filing of all financial and tax-related documents.

Operations Management:

  • Manage the organization’s physical space, infrastructure, and assets in partnership with the Associate Director.
  • Direct human resources, including developing and administering personnel policies, benefits management, employment practices, and handling individual personnel issues.
  • Ensure sound risk management policies and practices, including compliance with applicable non-profit laws and securing appropriate insurance coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for the mission.
  • Energetic, goal-oriented team player with excellent communication skills (oral and written) and relationship-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated interest in supporting volunteers and a strong commitment to advancing art and design.
  • 10+ years of related management experience, including direct staff supervision, financial reporting/oversight, and advocacy activities.
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, successful at managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Enjoys working in a close-knit team, embraces technology.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years in an Executive Director or related role.
  • Past experience meeting and exceeding fundraising goals.
