Estimator for Heavy Civil Projects
Job Summary:
The Estimator will analyze, prepare, and review bids for heavy civil projects (roadway, highway, bridge), including earthwork, utilities, mechanical piping, and amenities. Candidates must have experience estimating large-scale projects ($50M+) using various delivery methods.
Key Responsibilities:
– Evaluate cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services.
– Monitor actual costs against bids during project development and track commodity pricing impacting costs pre-bid or during buy-out.
– Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to discuss projects, formulate strategies, prepare estimates, and resolve issues.
– Liaise with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to adjust cost estimates.
– Review plans, specifications, and industry standards for utility and water/wastewater treatment plant projects.
– Thoroughly understand all bidding-phase correspondence, including plans, specifications, bid forms, RFIs, clarifications, and addenda.
– Conduct full-cycle take-offs, pricing, subcontractor coordination, skill evaluation, bid preparation, and submission, even with incomplete (30-60%) plans.
– Maintain a supplier, contractor, and subcontractor directory using SmartBidNet software.
– Prepare sub-bid analysis documents to qualify subcontractor bids and materials.
– Develop electronic estimates and preliminary cost information.
– Provide documentation and estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
Qualifications:
– Proficient in all delivery methods: Hard Bid, CSP, CMAR, CMGC, and Design Build.
– Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
– Skilled in estimating software (e.g., AutoCAD, Primavera, Timberline, WinEst).
– Moderate to high proficiency in MS Excel, Outlook, and Word.
– Self-motivated, able to work independently, and manage multiple deadlines.
– Collaborative team player during pre-construction.
– Valid driver’s license for occasional travel.
