Description

The Exceptional Children (EC) Resource Teacher plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment for students with diverse learning needs. This position is dedicated to identifying, assessing, and addressing the unique academic, behavioral, and social challenges faced by students with disabilities. The EC Resource Teacher will work closely with students, teachers, and parents to create individualized learning plans tailored to each student’s capabilities and requirements. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is crucial as you work to implement appropriate accommodations and modifications to the curriculum and teaching strategies. You will also be responsible for providing targeted interventions and coordinating with specialists to ensure that each student’s needs are met comprehensively. Your leadership will help create a supportive learning atmosphere that promotes students’ self-confidence and resilience. Additionally, you will play an important role in advocating for the rights and needs of students while ensuring compliance with all educational policies and regulations regarding exceptional children. This position not only requires skillful teaching but also a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of students who face various barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ specific learning needs and monitor their progress.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate accommodations and modifications in the classroom.
  • Plan and deliver specialized instruction that aligns with students’ IEPs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and IEP implementation.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about their child’s development and progress.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in special education.
  • Advocate for students’ rights and needs within the school and community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching license with special education certification.
  • Must be certified in North Carolina in an EC area.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic and instructional strategies for exceptional learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
