This full-time, permanent Custom Automation Builder – Mechanical Assembly opening is at an employee-oriented, debt-free, family-owned manufacturer specializing in custom automation, robotic integration, and test systems for major manufacturers worldwide.
The work environment is highly collaborative where the company fosters a culture where mechanical and controls teams work together from the start. You will not be building the same machine repeatedly; every project is custom automation built from the ground up, making the work varied, interesting, and never boring. Once a machine hits the floor, it is your baby; you take ownership for the entire build, ensuring quality and collaborating directly with engineering to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate will include the following:
- Lead the complete ground-up assembly of diverse, high-value custom automation, robotic systems, and production machinery.
- Integrate all machine systems by installing electrical cables, pneumatic, and hydraulic components with high precision.
- Interpret detailed blueprints and schematics to guide mechanical assembly, ensuring accurate connection, alignment, and security of all custom parts.
- Collaborate directly with the Engineering team to troubleshoot design issues, recommend technical fixes, and ensure quality and consistency throughout the build.
- Finalize machine readiness, including system testing, breakdown, and packaging for shipment, with minimal regional travel (home nightly) for occasional installation support
Candidates with a background of building the same machine over and over again will not be a fit for this position. The background of the successful candidate must include the following:
- 5+ years of progressively responsible Mechanical Machine Assembly experience (or 2+ years if possessing Toolmaking experience)
- Proven experience reading, interpreting, and following technical documentation, including highly detailed blueprints and complex assembly drawings/schematics
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Proficiency in utilizing a variety of hand/power tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine shop equipment
- A solid work history with a focus on custom, varied machine building (candidates from repetitive assembly lines are not a fit)
- Being a US citizen or green card holder and having a residence within a 45-minute drive of Pewaukee, WI
