Overview: Clinical Instructors in a BSN program educate and mentor nursing students in clinical settings, bridging classroom theory with practical application. They supervise students during rotations, ensure safe patient care, and foster critical thinking and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Supervision: Supervise students in hospitals, clinics, or simulation labs. Teach skills like health assessments, medication administration, and charting. Ensure adherence to evidence-based practice and curriculum goals.
  2. Student Mentorship: Orient students to clinical sites. Facilitate group discussions for problem-solving. Provide feedback and evaluate performance using tools like Clinical Evaluation Forms.
  3. Curriculum Support: Align clinical assignments with BSN objectives. Teach specialized courses (e.g., medical-surgical, pediatrics). Assess learning outcomes for accreditation.
  4. Collaboration: Coordinate with clinical staff, preceptors, and faculty to plan schedules and assignments. Evaluate clinical sites for suitability.
  5. Compliance: Maintain clinical competency, complete required training (e.g., background checks, immunizations), and model professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • No Previous Teaching experience is required! Our Faculty Development training program will provide tools to help you be successful in a class room setting. 
  • Hold a valid, active license issued by the State Board of Registered Nursing
  • Master of Nursing or higher degree from an accredited college or university that includes course work in nursing or education, administration. OB, Pediatrics or Psychiatry
  • At least four years’ experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care
  • A year of Clinical experience within the last five years (Clinical teaching applies toward direct patient care). Clinically competent as defined in CCR Section 1420(c)
  • Expertise in one of the following areas of nursing –  , Pediatrics or OB-Gyn 

Skills:

  • Hard Skills: Proficiency in clinical nursing, teaching, and evaluation. Knowledge of evidence-based practice and adult learning principles.
  • Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills. Critical thinking to guide student decision-making.
