Our client, a Houston area law firm, is ready to hire an experienced Public Law Attorney to join their team. The Associate Attorney provides counsel on applicable legal and policy matters, and assists on financial issues. The Associate Attorney must be internally motivated, team-oriented while having the ability to work independently, and comfortable interacting with array of people with varying backgrounds, education levels, and experience.
This person will work directly with our clients and their consultants/vendors to achieve desired outcomes.
· Documents: Drafts, reviews and revises documents including public meeting agendas and minutes, formal letters, orders, resolutions and other client-related documents. Oversees final compilation.
· Contracts: Negotiates, drafts, reviews and, revises a variety of different kinds of contracts.
· Research: Collects and evaluates legal precedents and other relevant information to advise clients on legal options and risks, and to ensure compliance.
· Meetings: Prepares for and attends public meetings of governmental bodies both in our office and offsite.
· Communication: Routinely communicates with clients and their consultants/vendors by phone, email and video conference.
· Projects: Participates in special projects such as elections and Texas Public Information Act (PIA) responses for clients as needed.
· Administrative: Enters time in our time and billing software and prepares expense reports.
· Takes direction from Members, other Attorneys, and/or Office Administrator.
· Licensed by the State Bar of Texas.
· At least two (2) years’ experience in public law, municipal law, public finance, or a related legal practice.
· Ability to travel to and from client sites to participate in related activities and meetings whether during normal work hours or after-hours as required.
· Ability to effectively present information to senior management.
· Organized, detail oriented and able to balance work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
· Experience resolving conflict between groups with opposing perspectives, agendas or priorities.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
· Knowledge of general office administrative procedures and the use and operation of standard office equipment.
· Typing proficiency and strong proofreading skills are required.
· Proficient with Windows based software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications, such as time and billing software and document management systems.
· Professional appearance and telephone manners are essential.
