Advanced PLC Programmer – Custom Automation Specialist

 

  • 2+ years of experience is preferred in industrial automation, including the ability to write PLC programs from scratch
  • 2+ years of proven experience designing and programming custom control systems, utilizing a broad knowledge base across various PLC and HMI platforms is a requirement
  • No degree required — experience and technical aptitude are the primary factors
  • Pay is up to $120,000 for highly experienced candidates
  • Hours are generally 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but the schedule is highly flexible to manage service calls and personal needs, with minimal to no scheduled after-hours calls or weekends
  • A company vehicle is supplied for all service work, so a valid driver’s license is required
  • Must be a United States citizen or green card holder and possess a valid driver’s license
  • No remote work, as this is an on-site only position

This full-time, permanent Advanced PLC Programmer – Custom Automation Specialist opportunity is with an established and growing automation company that designs, installs, and services custom electrical automation systems, panels, and robotics. This role is ideal for an independent self-starter who is tired of the cubicle and seeking a professional home because it offers maximum variety and challenge as this is not a repetitive factory job. You will work on a broad range of custom projects and service calls, ensuring you are constantly learning and applying new skills. The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate include the following:

  • Serve as a dedicated Automation Specialist / PLC Programmer in the field, managing service calls and customer interactions independently across Wisconsin and northern Illinois (minimal long-distance travel)
  • Design and program custom control systems, utilizing a broad knowledge base across various PLC/HMI platforms (not limited to one brand)
  • Perform on-site control troubleshooting and wiring for electrical control systems, VFDs (variable frequency drives), and DC controllers
  • Install, commission, and retrofit automation systems, including panel builds and robotics, applying strong print knowledge
  • Handle comprehensive project responsibilities, requiring excellent communication and independence to deliver solutions quickly and effectively
  • Must be able to multitask and effectively manage projects while maintaining a professional, helpful, and kind demeanor, as this role involves frequent customer-facing interactions

 

The background of the successful candidates must include the following:

  • 2+ years of practical industrial working experience in automation, PLCs, VFDs, or electrical controls, including writing PLC programs from scratch, is preferred
  • 2+ years of proven experience designing and programming custom control systems, utilizing a broad knowledge base across various PLC and HMI platforms (not limited to one brand)
  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively manage a dynamic service schedule
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work with electrical drawings and schematics
  • A strong work ethic and dedication to continuous learning are essential
  • A proven track record of loyalty and dedication (minimal job hopping) is highly valued
  • Must be a team player comfortable working in a fun and direct environment
  • Must be a United States citizen or green card holder and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must reside within 45 minutes of the Johnson Creek, WI area
