Wimpy Handshake aka: The “Meet & Greet” Remember your mom taught you to offer a firm handshake and look the person squarely in the eye? Well – she was RIGHT. Remember “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” (tag line from famous Head and Shoulders ad) so make your first impression count. Be confident – if you don’t feel it, fake it. Pretend you are meeting someone you already know. Here’s an important one. We once had a candidate who was in line for an offer. His interviews went great. Last step was a plant tour where he was introduced to many of the floor associates. Well, guess what? He blew his dream job because he gave short shrift to those folks. Didn’t acknowledge them properly and didn’t ask appropriate questions during his tour. Careful not to overstep your bounds, but be appropriately friendly and ask a few questions that are applicable to what you are seeing.
