We are seeking a talented and motivated Technical Accounting Manager to join our finance team and play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements.

Position Overview: The Technical Accounting Manager will be a key member of the finance team responsible for managing complex accounting matters, maintaining compliance with relevant accounting standards, and providing expert guidance on technical accounting issues. Reporting directly to the [Director/VP of Finance], this role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex financial concepts to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Expertise: Serve as the go-to resource for technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, stock-based compensation, business combinations, and other complex transactions. Research, interpret, and apply accounting standards (e.g., US GAAP, IFRS) to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  2. Policy Development: Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with evolving accounting standards. Regularly assess and update internal accounting policies to ensure compliance with regulatory changes.

  3. Financial Reporting: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A sections. Assist in the preparation of SEC filings, as required.

  4. M&A Support: Provide technical accounting guidance and due diligence support for business combinations, acquisitions, and divestitures, including performing purchase accounting and assessing the impact on financial statements.

  5. Audits and Compliance: Lead the coordination of external audits and ensure effective communication with auditors. Prepare and review audit schedules, support documentation, and respond to auditor inquiries.

  6. Training and Communication: Conduct training sessions for finance and non-finance teams to enhance understanding of technical accounting matters. Communicate complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  7. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy. Implement best practices and automation solutions where applicable.

  8. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including legal, tax, treasury, and operations, to address accounting-related issues and provide guidance on accounting implications of business decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Big 4 Public Accounting Experience preferred 
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years of technical accounting expertise.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS, including experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply accounting principles to complex transactions.
  • Experience with SEC reporting and compliance preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role is a plus.
