Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Advising clients on tax strategies
  • Developing tax plans for corporate reorganizations, M&A transactions and estate planning in domestic and cross-border context
  • Identifying value added tax planning opportunities for clients
  • Researching complex tax issues
  • Building on technical competence by keeping up to date on tax developments and applying them in practical situations
  • Playing a leadership role in the tax group by actively contributing to the development and execution of the firm’s business plan
  • Providing training and advice to the firm in areas of taxation
  • Mentoring, supervising, and training members of the tax team
  • Overseeing and being responsible for the work of staff members
  • Maintaining relationships with clients and preparing and delivering proposals to clients for tax services offered by the firm
  • Leading client mandates and identifying and analyzing client needs

What you need to succeed:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant tax planning experience in a public accounting firm
  • M&A experience is an asset
  • CPA designation or law degree
  • Having completed the Master of Taxation program or CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Courses
  • Experience with CaseWare and Taxprep is an asset
  • Proficient with tax research methods and databases
  • Solid experience interpreting and applying tax legislations
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities, build strong client relations and focus on employee engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work within required budgets
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Inquisitiveness and creativity
