Our client is looking to add a Paving Superintendent to assist with builds in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. This is a full time, supervisory role (About 10 direct reports) with a great organization. They have been in concrete for over 60 years and are a very respected company with in Iowa and the country at large. NOTE: This position would begin in Spring (end of February/beginning of March).
Primary Job Duties
- Plans, Directs, Organizes and Controls multiple paving projects for Metro Group;
- Oversees construction paving projects, leads and manages on-site construction teams and oversees all
work on site(s); coordinates, and collaborates with sub-contractors and/or Project Managers to ensure
the on-time and in budget completion of paving projects;
- Attends Project Manager (PM) scheduling meetings and client/customer meetings as required;
- Develops paving schedules with PM collaboration and leads paving scheduling meetings;
- Identifies paving project required materials, places orders for materials and ensures that materials are
delivered on-time and within budget requirements;
- Responsible for paving project(s) budget(s) and ensures project timelines, budgets and deadlines are
within schedule and budget;
- Responsible for orderliness on-site and ensures compliance with safety regulations and clint/customer
requirements;
- Ensures quality standards are within contractual specifications, all equipment and materials are available
on-site as required;
- Liaises with inspection authorities regarding approvals;
- Reports directly to the General Manager;
- Directs 1-2 direct reports;
- Assists in the development of and accountable for operating budgets;
Qualifications
- Degree in construction management or related field;
- Strong leadership qualities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Must demonstrate the ability to teach and further train and develop staff;
- Strong work ethic, and highly organized; professional-level, reasoning abilities are necessary to process
complex information, delegate duties, and prioritize deadlines;
- Must have the ability to interpret paving plans, civil plans, specifications and other related construction
documents;
- Must have the ability to maintain on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and orderliness;
- Must have the ability to maintain applicable construction records, applicable field and production reports;
- Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook and estimating software experience; reading CAD
drawings a plus;
Physical Requirements
- This position will spend the majority of the working day at the Plants, but will occasionally visit job sites
requires:
- Occasional twisting, pulling, and climbing, up to 60% of the time
- Standing, climbing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours a day occasionally reading fine print, viewing
indirect and direct sunlight, and working regularly on a computer and/or tablet
- Being exposed to outdoor elements (hot and cold) for up to 8 hours a day
- Typing on the computer/table
- Occasionally working from levels over 4 feet from the ground (such as a ladder)
- Visual requirements-must be able to pass a normal visual acuity test, must not have any night time
