Experienced optician producing the highest quality spherical optical surfaces for a precision optical manufacturing organization. Experience with a range of materials including Zerodur, fused silica, calcium fluoride, optical glasses, silicon, among others needed. Ability to produce surfaces better than 20th wave required. Working from written instructions and drawings, set up and execute jobs requiring precision and attention to detail. Collaborate with supervisor and planning group to meet on-time delivery schedules. Assist in continually improving procedures and methods with a mind toward efficiency.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all optical fabrication processes including, but not limited to, coring, curve generating, plano generating, beveling, blocking, grinding, polishing, test plating, optical testing using an interferometer, cleaning, assembly and the like
  • Performs complete set-ups without assistance and operates optical fabrication equipment on assignments of a high degree of difficulty
  • Particular skill and emphasis in the lapping & polishing of spheres is key
  • Experience with CNC equipment (Optotech, Satisloh, Schneider, etc.) is a plus
  • Performs a wide variety of complex set ups and operates optical fabrication equipment on assignment of the highest degree of difficulty requiring unique and non-routine methods
  • Provides guidance and training to less experienced Opticians
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a neat and orderly condition
  • Follows prescribed safety regulations and assists in modifying and creating them as required
  • Understands and follows ISO procedures
  • Reads and interprets technical drawings and process instructions
  • Assists in creating procedures, process routines and methods as required
  • Perform maintenance and preventatives maintenance on equipment and tooling

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • HS Diploma plus 12 years or more experience in a precision optical fabrication facility
  • Working knowledge of shop math
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Mechanical ability
  • Able to use hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
  • Experience with troubleshooting of processes
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Careful, well organized and detail oriented
  • Strong computer skills including MS Work and Excel
