Job Summary

The Global Product Manager is a critical role responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of the refrigeration product line as well as supporting day to day application engineering efforts. As part of the leadership team this role works with refrigeration leadership to guide product life cycle management with an eye on product growth and profitability. Additionally this role acts as the lead Applications Engineer thus ensuring product management ties directly to daily application and customer support. Critical to this role is the ability to coordinate with Regional Sale Managers to close prospective sales for both new and existing refrigeration products. The role must also partner with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Production in setting market strategies and ensuring they can be brought to realization through Plant Operations. This role is essential to the refrigeration segment’s growth aspiration to double the size of its operations over the next 18 – 24 months.

As the primary source of in-house product knowledge, success in this role requires extensive technical knowledge of refrigeration product lines, as well as a comprehensive understanding of market conditions and customer needs.

In addition to product management and application engineering, the Global Product Manager is responsible for driving excellence in several critical areas including:

  • Portfolio Maintenance – ensure efficient product line management including new additions and enhancement or rationalization of existing designs and product offerings
  • Pricing – support organizational pricing processes for both product sales and aftermarket parts
  • Engineering – support engineering design efforts including continuous improvements

 

The ideal candidate will be a growth-oriented leader with demonstrated track record of driving improvement through day to day management, process excellence, and long term holistic portfolio management. A candidate with experience in 80/20 continuous improvement principles is strongly preferred. Candidate can also expect professional growth both with Refrigeration and Corporate more broadly, as this role is an excellent stepping stone towards more advanced roles within the broader organization.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze product data (e.g. sales, margin, win/loss ratio); identify, recommend, and help implement improvements
  • Continually review current product portfolio’s ability to meet customer needs
  • Develop product definitions responsive to customer needs and marketing opportunities including aftermarket
  • Develop product cost targets and lead cost reduction efforts to maximize margins in each region in which products are sold
  • Implement pricing and promotional strategies based on marketing research and competitive analysis in conjunction with Sales and Marketing to establish and maintain market position
  • Define and manage aftermarket growth strategy
  • Develop competitive analysis materials to compare product segment with key competitors
  • Disseminate information on products and product strategies to all functional areas of the business unit, providing technical product training as needed
  • Support all locations globally with regard to the given product platform
  • Develop and improve methods and processes related to proposals, technical data, project handoff and contract review
  • Drive improvements to win rate and RFQ response time
  • Support the Sales organization with technical and commercial information, budgetary quotes and firm quotes
  • Provide technical expertise during field sales calls and bid qualifications meetings
  • Develop and present webinars and other presentations to customers, reps and internal employees
  • Author white papers and other technical publications
  • Represent the company on industry-specific committees such as IIAR, RETA, ASHRAE
  • Oversee accuracy of quotes and proposals
  • Partner with field sales to lead contract review and negotiations with clients

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mechanical engineering
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead product development and portfolio management
  • Previous experience in the development of highly engineered, custom products
  • Previous experience building positive development oriented organizational cultures

 Functional Experience

  • Strategic decision making experience
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Formal exposure to process improvement and problem solving methodologies
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with pricing, forecasting, finance and distribution models
  • Ability to develop proposal strategies based on subject matter expertise
  • Strong negotiation skills both technically and commercially
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally about 30 percent of the time

 Industry Sector and Company Experience

  • Technical aptitude and strong technical knowledge of coil heat exchanger products used as evaporators and condenser
  • Strong knowledge of functions relevant to product management including sales, market segment analysis, purchasing, product engineering, production, cost analysis, quality, and customer service
  • Strong understanding of technical and commercial project variables with the ability to proactively initiate action based on that understanding
