The Cost Accountant will oversee and analyze all cost expenditures related to the manufacturing processes in the facility. This position is responsible for producing detailed cost reports and analyses in support of operations and sales. The position is also the finance liaison in support of accurate and timely inventory general ledger transactions. In addition, the position is responsible for developing and maintaining the financial cost reports necessary to fully explain standard and gross margin analyses and the variances in planned results. All manufacturing cost aspects including material, labor, overhead, price-volume-mix analyses as well as efficiency, productivity and spend variances will be monitored and explained. This information will support weekly financial flashes, monthly results, quarterly forecasts, and annual budgets. This position collaborates with and supports the operations, sales, and finance teams with insightful analyses and suggestions for improvements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare daily, weekly & monthly operational reports explaining the material, labor, and overhead efficiency and productivity costs in comparison to plan
- Prepare monthly standard and gross margin analyses as well as monthly ‘cost of goods manufactured and cost of goods sold statements
- Work with the Plant Controller to understand current reporting metrics, develop improved reports and fully understand inventory transactions as relates to the general ledger.
- Acts as the finance lead for annual physical inventory and weekly cycle counts; works with the operational resources responsible for these processes to assure timely and accurate financial reporting implications.
- Prepare and maintain standard adjusting journal entries with related support as relates to operational cost accounting and monthly inventory book to perpetual.
- Support external audit and tax preparation function as relates to cost accounting.
- Support the Plant Controller in responding to inquiries from the Platform regarding cost accounting issues, data in reports, financial information, and policies and procedures related to cost accounting.
- Continuously search for process improvement to increase efficiencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; advanced degree preferred
- 3+ years of progressive experience within accounting/finance with a specialty in manufacturing cost accounting
- Proven record in assisting operational leadership with understanding and improving processes to support bottom-line results
- A certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
